What Causes Rosacea?

Do you suffer from rosacea?  Or maybe you’re not sure you have rosacea, but you notice some of the typical signs of the common skin disorder:  redness of the cheeks, nose, chin, and forehead.   At times symptoms may include small bumps and pimples in the red, irritated areas. More advanced rosacea may cause burning and soreness of the eyes.

Some say that having rosacea keeps them from feeling confident at work or in social situations. If your rosacea bothers you or has gotten worse, now is probably a good time to see the professionals at Belle Aimée Med Spa.

Experts aren’t sure what causes rosacea, but the condition appears to be brought on by elements that are irritating to the skin.  Sources of irritation may include sun exposure, caffeine, spicy foods, alcohol consumption (especially red wine), exposure to certain medications and stress/anxiety.  Rosacea tends to affect those who are fair skinned or who blush easily, and it is believed to be hereditary. Left untreated, the symptoms of rosacea tend to get worse over time and in many cases it is cyclical. Rosacea signs and symptoms may flare up for a period of weeks to months, and then diminish before flaring up again. Rosacea is often misdiagnosed as acne, but it can also be mistaken for other skin problems, such as a skin allergy or eczema. There is no cure for rosacea, however, symptoms can be controlled and reduced with proper treatments. Over time, our treatments may keep the rosacea at bay.

Depending on severity of rosacea, one to four treatments may be required to obtain optimal results.

The Palomar Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments offer the following benefits to patients:

•  Excellent aesthetic results with minimal treatment time

•  Less treatment pain

•  Little to no downtime

•  Fewer treatments than other solutions
